BIO – DAVID BAKERDavid Baker has established a significant position in the evolving Digital Media marketplace with over 20 years experience in the fields of entertainment and technology. With early roots in the music business, Baker was named “Most Outstanding Soloist” for performances at “The Monterey Jazz Festival.” Performance gave way to music and video production work at several top LA studios. Having gained a practical understanding of performance and production, Baker left the entertainment industry to gain formal educational background in Electronic Engineering, Broadcast Engineering and Telecommunications. With this unique mix of practical and educational background, Baker became a founding partner and President of Electronic Integration Systems, Incorporated (EISI). For the better part of a decade, Baker’s responsibilities at EISI included the successful design, development and execution of multi-million dollar projects nationwide. These projects ranged from professional audio-video systems to commercial building automation. Through a close relationship with producers Freddie Fields and Jerome Hellman, Baker began consulting work for Network Event Theater (NET). Fields and Hellman began NET as a vehicle to provide entertainment, via satellite, to the college market. Consulting gave way to a full time position as Senior Vice President of Technical Operations. Under Baker’s direction, NET grew to a 40-site network of what would later be called Digital Cinemas. In addition to his technical duties, Baker acted as Executive Producer for NET’s events. As Executive Producer, credits include “Live with Oliver Stone” for the premiere of “U-Turn”, “Live with John Carpenter” for the premiere of “Vampires” and over thirty other live, interactive and taped for broadcast events. Playing a major role in the development of economic and technical models for NET provided Baker with a unique insight into how digital media would evolve. Wanting to further shape this evolution, Baker accepted a position
to lead the Digital Cinema and Convergent Media efforts for CyberStar
(a Loral Company). Baker was recruited in January 2000 to work as a Digital Media Consultant for Hughes Space and Communications (HSC). Later that same year HSC was acquired by Boeing, becoming Boeing Satellite Systems (BSS). Baker was asked by BSS top management to develop a new business within Boeing focused on the digital delivery of feature motion pictures. As Founder and Co-Director of Boeing’s Digital Cinema initiative, Baker managed all day-to-day business, technical and promotional activities. A significant result of his leadership and direction at Boeing was evident in November of 2000 when Baker orchestrated the collaboration between Miramax and Boeing on the first ever satellite and fiber (hybrid) transport of the feature film, “Bounce.” This event remains as one of the most important milestones in the evolution of Digital Cinema. The achievement was followed by Boeing’s continued collaboration with Miramax on the first ever satellite transport for the premiere of “Spy Kids” at Disney’s California Adventure. In addition to these milestones, Baker was responsible for all marketing related events for Boeing Digital Cinema. Responsibilities included the design, direction and execution of events including ShoWest 2001, Cannes 2001 and Cinema Expo 2001. Baker’s influence at Boeing provided the foundation and strategies for their Global Digital Media efforts. Independently, Baker has authored several papers and developed numerous technical and business models, focused on Convergent Digital Media. These papers highlight his unique ideas on content submission, security, aggregation, storage, hybrid distribution and use management. With the cornerstone of his methodology being a fully transactional content engine, Baker has been internationally acclaimed as having a clear and sensible vision. Contact Information: David Baker
